Lack of treatment and inadequate treatment of cholesterol problem is prevalent and an important cause of recurring events.

NCEP guidelines is a national guideline to help physicians identify patients who need cholesterol treatment and define the goals of treatment depending upon the risk category. The higher the risk, the more intense the therapy.

Shown above is a compliance study to determine what percentage of CHD patients were treated by the their physicians to the recommended LDL goal of less than 100 mg/dl.

The above slide shows the LDL distribution of the patients in the L-TAP study. 82% were not at goal. More than 40% had an LDL over 130 mg/dl.
